Headboard Fit For A Princess

Are we all having a great weekend?
I love weekends like this when the house is quiet and I feel like I can actually get some things accomplished. I have been on an organizing kick lately and trying to get some more projects for my studio complete.
It's finally painted and the curtains are made so I'm on to smaller decor & storage ideas.
I live in a house full of men so having an entire room to myself is beyond amazing. I'm not ashamed to tell you I picked the girliest color I could and splashed it everywhere.
Yes, girliest is now a word.

Since I'm working on finishing that up {along with a few pieces of furniture & a couple of gifts} and it's not ready to show you yet, I decided to show you another piece I did for my brothers new house.

My little niece is four and about as girly as they come. She loves everything pink, purple & pretty. I have only boys so you can imagine how quickly I jump at the opportunity to make anything involving pink or glitter.

I happened to find a matching dresser, mirror, and headboard for free on craig. Lucky day indeed.

The dresser and mirror were  beasts, but that's for another day. We wouldn't be needing the headboard for anything so I decided to give it a makeover for my niece.
It was a bit older, but in decent condition.
It needed some minor repairs but nothing a little trim & wood putty couldn't handle.
A little wood putty
A little trim
Once it was all filled in, trimmed up & dried, I sanded it down & gave it a coat of primer & 2 coats of a pink Krylon. I can't remember the name of the exact pink color I used.
I could go out to the garage to see, but that would be just about too much effort right now.
I hope you forgive me. I will post it as soon as I find out what it is.

I wanted a little contrast & I had another idea for the design elements on the headboard so I just painted them white with just some regular ol' craft paint I had on hand.
All pink & white
I wanted to pump it up a notch & add a little princess bling to it so I glittered up the very center of the design element.
I didn't want to add too much because I still needed to incorporate  the other idea I was going to be adding into the mix.
Some glitter pow!
Now I had the perfect pink & white headboard, but if you know me at all you already know I'm not going to stop there. This needed to be fit for a princess when I was done with it.
I had purchased some of those crystal curtain panels for a birthday party I planned earlier in the year & since then they have been sitting in a closet collecting dust.
I decided to cut a few strands off & hot glue them to the trim of the headboard. Perfect choice!
Now we're getting there.

It needed just one more thing. What do little girls like even more than pink & glitter?
They like to see their name on everything.
I remember clearly the days long gone when my sister & I would grab the nearest Crayola and scrawl our name across whatever little treasure we wanted to claim ownership of.
I sized & cut out my nieces' name on my cricut & used the negative space as a stencil. I didn't take any pictures of this step because I give you all enough credit to know what it takes to stick some vinyl on a headboard.
Once it was all stuck on, I gave it a light dabbing of white craft paint.
When I took the vinyl off after it had dried; I wasn't too impressed with the coverage so I set about fixing it.
Now I know I have made it perfectly clear how much I love my Krylon spray paint, & no, I am in no way being compensated for saying that, but there is another product I am just as in love with.
My Elmers paint pens get some heavy use around these parts. I love that their tips come in different sizes and they are perfect for lettering. I went ahead and used those to go over the name one more time.
Working on the lettering
Once it was all filled in and I had gone around double checking that everything was the way I wanted it, I gave it 2 coats of clear finish.

When she got it she loved it!
I'm keeping my eye out for an old dresser I want to turn into a dress-up wardrobe for her.
I saw the idea while reading A Turtle's Life for Me. How stinkin' cute is that anyway?!
She also has loads of great projects & a pretty amazing freezer meal post I know you'll love. Check her out.
All right peeps, I'm out. My domestic life calls and I must get some laundry done & do some vacuuming. Until next time!
