DIY No-Sew Envelope Pillows

I'm not going to say I can't sew.....
I'm going to say I'm slightly sewing challenged.
Big difference? Ummmm probably not,
but it makes me feel better to say it that way.

Another thing that makes me feel better is when I find those
little things that make life simpler.
Simpler and quicker. Because well........we've established since
spring has arrived I'm running a few steps behind.

I'm talkin' about stitch witchery people.
The stuff of legend!
Okay maybe not legend, but it's pretty rockin' stuff.

I needed wanted some new throw pillows for my bed,
but wanted to make them the quickest, easiest way possible.
Mission accomplished.

I had purchased an over abundance some pretty fabric
when it was on sale. Since it was neutral & medium weight
I knew I could use it on all sorts of projects.

I wish I had a before picture of my big pile of pillows,
but I was going for quick & easy remember?
I basically just grabbed an assortment of old throw pillows
I had lying around from various bed sets I had purchased.

And to be 100% honest here; I only kinda sorta followed
a couple of different tutorials. Mostly I just used the
"I totally got this" method & flew by the seat of my pants.
Since the fabric was on a bolt, I cut off a good sized chunk
& laid it out on the dining table & ironed it smooth.
I used the pillows I had to roughly
measure the width & length of fabric I would need
& cut each piece accordingly.
I left about 1"-1 1/2" seam allowance on both sides.
I folded the bottom up roughly 1/3 of the way & doubled down
the frayed edge to make a nice seam.
I ironed it first to keep it crisp so when I added the stitch witchery it
would lay smoother & line up better.
I folded the top flap down, making sure to overlap the bottom flap
by about 2-2 1/2 inches.
I placed my pillow to make sure my sizing was
correct & adjusted where needed.
It may be a bit hard to see here, but his just shows how I folded twice &
placed the stitch witchery in there.

I used a barely damp washcloth over top of the fabric when ironing
& very slowly moved the iron leaving it in each spot for no more
than 30-40 seconds. It's best to read your package directions
to make sure you're using the correct temp & times.

Make sure to lift up the seam to check for a secure mending
of the fabric. If it's not quite secured, go over it again with the iron.

I didn't get pictures of the next step for some reason,
but I flipped the fabric over on its 'backside' so the
freshly ironed seams were facing outwards
The reverse of the above picture.
Then simply placed a piece of stitch witchery between the
two pieces to close the sides in.
Clear as mud?

Once the sides were fused together I nipped the corners to
allow for less bunching & sharper end points on the pillows.

And this is how the first cover turned out.
Yep, I messed up. I didn't turn the fabric over before closing the
sides together & the seam is on the outside.
Not a huge deal really, but it would look nicer the right way :)

Once all the pillow covers were finished I used
some stamps, fabric paint, tape to add a little punch to them.

This number 7 is my favorite.
I would have liked this one better if I could have made the script
a little more seamless & not so 'boxy.'
3106 is my boys' birthdays....of course ;)
I left the two larger ones alone for now, but I have an idea
brewing for them.

It took me about 2 hours to finish making the covers & another half hour to
decorate them so not a bad project for a weekend afternoon really.
The bedroom is coming along nicely with just a few more
projects to go; including finishing my permanent headboard.
{This is just a temporary 'filler'}

I think I'm most excited about getting rid of those pale
grey-green walls. I know you can't see a lot of my wall decor in this
picture, but it is doing some serious clashing that makes my
little head hurt.

The good news is I finally found the before pictures for
the other sneak peek post I've been wanting to do!!

And since we're scheduled to have cold rain for the next couple
of days, I see a slowing down in my future to do some
fun posts!

Have a wonderful evening friends!

  8. Hi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you're working with? I'm
planning to start my own blog soon but I'm having a hard time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something completely unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

  9. Actually there are 2 more tapes to use. One is just like double stick tape. You put it where you want it, take plastic covering off and put seams together. There's Heat-n-bond also to iron on. I found the least expensive one at Walmart compared to HL or Joann's. We don't have A.C. Moore in western CO.
Love your pillows. You're very good at getting straight lines. Where did you get the scripted fabric, love it? Found 2 different French scripted/images duck cloth fabrics at HL but they're much bigger font and print. I'm always on lookout for scripted fabrics. If you would please respond to: FurryKidzPaperworx@gmail.com Thanks ahead of time.
I sure loved your pillows. I usually have my machine ready but would be nice to whip some quick ones out occasionally. Happy Days

  13. Hi Stacey
I haven't seen you around in a while...I hope everything is okay. I've not posted since the beginning of May either, life is so busy and hectic I haven't been online much at all. I've been trying to catch up, and noticed you haven't posted. I hope it's just a case of life being so busy with you, too.
    Take care
    Debbie :)
